Galls, Diseases, and Pests - California Jumping Gall Wasp
Neuroterus saltatorius

It took me a while to ID these galls, because all of the photos I saw of California Jumping Galls showed leaves practically covered with the galls. I've only seen a few scattered galls per leaf at Rockville. Once I got a confirmation on the ID, I asked if the yellow-green galls with red spikes that I frequently saw along with the "normal" brown ones were also California Jumping Galls. The expert I was working with looked at the two types of galls and concluded that they were, indeed, the same gall at different stages of maturation.
